 Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What pressure activates The Whip?
The Whip activates (opens) when the pressure drops to 5psi. The internal contact of The Whip closes with at least 20psi.Back to top

  2. How does The Whip work?
The Whip is a theft detection device that connects to an electronic security system and the service valve of the air conditioner or heat pump to be protected. It triggers the security system when the pressure inside the refrigerant line of the air conditioner or heat pump drops below an acceptable level. This drop in pressure happens very rapidly when thieves cut the copper refrigerant line.Back to top

  3. What makes The Whip unique?
The Whip is not a simple pressure sensor, it contains a sealed array of End-of-Line Resistors (EOLR) which are common to a wide variety of electronic security systems. An EOLR prevents a thief from circumventing The Whip by shorting the security wire connected to The Whip. If the security cable connecting The Whip to the security system is shorted, cut, or tampered with, then the security system will be activated. Furthermore, if The Whip is removed from your HVAC line it will activate your security system. Back to top

  4. How should my burglar alarm be programmed?
It is important to have a qualified electronic security technician make the final connections between your security system and The Whip. It is equally important to make sure that your security company programs the zone connected to The Whip as a 24 hour burglary zone with supervision enabled. That way The Whip is ready even when your alarm is not armed.Back to top

  5. Does The Whip have a warranty?
Yes. There is a one year limited warranty. See the Warranty page of this web site for details.Back to top

  6. How much power does The Whip use?
The Whip does not consume any power. It is simply part of a circuit on your security system.Back to top

  7. What if the air conditioner system needs service?
No Problem. Even though The Whip attaches to a service valve on the air conditioner, it may be easily disconnected by the HVAC technician. MAKE SURE TO PUT YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM ON TEST BEFORE THE HVAC TECHNICIAN BEGINS SERVICE.Back to top

  8. Where can I purchase The Whip?
From your electronic security company, or if you are a licensed professional you may purchase The Whip from one of our distributors.Back to top

  9. What if my distributor does not carry The Whip?
Request that your distributor's purchasing department contact us to get an account established. Otherwise, use the Contact Us page of this web site and we will connect you with a distributor that does carry The Whip.Back to top
